Welcome to Growth Mindset Eternal!
Where we take a "Growth Mindset" approach and apply it to an "Eternal" perspective.
It is possible that by now you have heard someone somewhere talk about or make mention of "fixed mindset vs growth mindset". This concept was coined by Psychologist Carol Dweck within her book "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" published in 2006. This concept was first introduced to me in 2013 while I was completing my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Middle Tennessee State University. Since then, I have heard this concept being taught in various companies, organizations, and marketed on multiple social media platforms.
The concept, in brief, is the way someone views their abilities, potential, intelligence, and talents.
A Fixed Mindset says "Failure is the limit of my abilities. I am inherently who I am and no matter the effort, who I am cannot change."
In contrast, a Growth Mindset says, "Failure is an opportunity for me to get better. I am capable of improvement and growth in any skill I put my time and effort into."
So how do we apply the concept of Fixed Mindset & Growth Mindset to Biblical and Theological studies? Glad you asked!
Think about all the different denominations of the church: The Catholic Church, The Southern Baptist Church, The United Methodist Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church, Episcopal Church, Pentecostal Church, and The Church of Christ...just to name a few. You might be wondering, if all of these churches believe in the same God, read from the same Bible, and proclaim the same "good news"...why is there a need for so many different "denominations" of the church?
The defining characteristics of a denomination are largely its theological views and practices. Varied interpretations of holy scriptures and doctrinal stances on matters like the nature of God, the function of sacraments, perspectives on salvation, and church governance have led to the establishment of various denominations.
In short, Fixed Mindsets have been applied to individuals' interpretation of scripture and what they believe it so say and mean, thus holding it captive and labeling it as unchangeable against their interpretations of its meaning and thus giving birth to <insert any> denomination.
Here at GME, we believe that the Word of God is living and active. Knowing that when we read the scripture, it, in turn, reads us. We humbly acknowledge that our finite minds couldn't possibly fully understand the depths of our Creator's, (God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, & Holy Spirit), infinite knowledge, wisdom, power, and love that go far beyond the access we have within our three-dimensional world. We dare not try and apply "fixed mindset" meaning onto God's word with our personal (and unintentionally biased) interpretation.
With this acknowledgment, we dive into exploring, studying, and discussing all things biblical, theological, and gospel centered to not only know more about God, but to know God more.
We acknowledge that no matter how extensively we study any Biblical or Theological topic, theme, passage, etc. we would never be able to exhaust all there is to discover and learn. We seek first with prayer and ask the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' name, to guide us in all we do, say, and learn.
So, if you are interested in learning more about all things biblical, theological, and gospel centered; where growing together in relationship with Jesus is the main goal and no one has the last word...you have come to the right place and we would LOVE for you to join our GME community!
